My family has two pet cats, Noo and Tom.
Noo is a cute tabby cat and Tom is an active and boyish cat.
They are both female.
These days they have become precious members of my family, but last year they weren`t so lucky.
Noo and Tom used to be stray cats.
When I was little, I liked keeping pets such as hamsters, goldfish and a lizard. However at the age of eight, my family had to move to the State of Michigan where my father was transferred for his job. We gave up keeping pets for a while, and although we wanted to have some, we knew that pets were prohibited at the house we rented.
So for a long time we didn’t have pets.
It has been about a year and a half since we came back from America.
Just when we had re-adjusted to life here in Japan, we were given a chance to meet Noo.
Last October, my Mom had a call from one of her friends. She told my Mom that she had found a really cute stray cat and was looking for someone to take care of.
What a coincidence!
She soon brought it to us and we saw straight away how cute she was!
She looked almost three months old. We instantly decided to keep her.
Originally, we wanted to name her Marianne, but Marianne was a little too long to say, so we abbreviated it to Noo as we often do in Japanese.
She looked cute and healthy but she was infested with fleas.
Poor Noo! She might have been a stray for a long time.
As this was our first time to keep a cat, we surfed the internet and read a lot of information about what to do. We are now taking care of her very well.
Soon after that, we received another piece of information from one of my Mom`s friends who was looking for a home for one more stray cat. What a coincidence! We thought she might be Noo’s sister or a good friend, so we decided to keep her too.
At first, the cats were nervous around each other, but now they have become very good friends.
We are so lucky to have such cute cats in our family.
We feel so peaceful when we see Tom and Noo playing happily with toys.
When we have pets, it is our responsibility to keep them happy and safe.
I will make sure they never suffer as they did before.
